For the past 66 years, the IF Design Award has been the most prestigious decoration of it’s kind, and in 2019 Eumar won its second award, for our Ergomedic washbasin.
Recognized as a symbol of design excellence around the world, the IF Design Awards welcomes over 5,000 submissions from 70 countries every year.
The awards were handed out at a gala ceremony in the BMW Welt in Munich where more than 2000 guests from 40 countries celebrated the best of the design world.
“They represent the excellent works of all awarded participants. This is design at its best”, said iF CEO Ralph Wiegmann at the ceremony.
The Ergomedic washbasin was recognized in the product category and represents the culmination of an intense design and production process.
hand hygiene in healthcare
It’s a well-known fact that our hands are the most easily contaminated parts of our bodies. we are touching many different surfaces and objects on a regular basis.
Just think about your own journey to work in the morning. You could touch a handrail on public transport, several doorknobs or handles, elevator buttons, other people, money and more.
The spread of bacteria by touch is the most common vector for infectious diseases and costs the global health care industry every year.
So we set ourselves the task of ensuring that maintaining good hand hygiene in healthcare institutions so simple that it would become second nature.
Beauty and functionality
The design goal was to develop a 100% antimicrobial washbasin, which would elegantly and subtly combine all the functional aspects of a hand-washing environment in healthcare, while at the same time meeting high aesthetic standards.
This ergonomic design concept increases awareness and understanding of the importance of handwashing as an effective way to prevent diseases and save lives, especially in hospitals and clinics where immune system risk is highest.
We believe washbasins should be elegant, functional and easy to use, as a positive experience encourages us to shift our habits. With this in mind, we designed a fully touch-free solution that would meet the high standards of clinical hygiene.
The fact that it is touch-free further increases its effectiveness at preventing the spread of bacteria and, of course, makes it easier to use.
eumar’s second IF design award
Eumar is making a habit of winning these awards, having previously been recognized in 2017 for our Split Range, which was distinguished by clear design and excellent integration in a neat bathroom environment.
The Split collection is a line of washbasins designed with maximum clarity, simplicity and harmony.
The secret to the success of the Eumar Split bathroom series lies in the way it integrates features that are perfect for hotel bathrooms, such as clear lines, smooth surfaces, as well as optional integrated toilet paper and towel holder openings. It also features the silky mat CreatCore or high-gloss white Gel-Ceramic finishes that offer a choice of equally sophisticated surfaces. Additional openings also mean that faucets can be wall or basin mounted, according to the needs of each installation.
What makes the iF Design awards so special?
The iF Design Awards have a stellar reputation as one of the truly independent design institutions in the world. Launched in 1953, when a group of industry representatives led by Philip Rosenthal met with the Hannover Trade Fair company (Hannover Messe). They felt a need to draw attention to particularly well-designed industrial products. The idea was to communicate the importance of design for users, for brands and for societies. The eventual name Industrie Forum (or iF for short) was adopted some years later.
